I create things for people to wear as they pretend to be other people which have been
described by a writer and defined through a concept as developed by the director with
collaboration from artists. I find clothes and make them malleable to fit the idea, the
person, the characters. I build pieces for a concept with research and a long background
in garment creation as my guides. I am an aware designer. I try to always show respect to
all artists involved on a project. We do it out of a desire to create something new: for art
and fun. I am aware of the delicacy of my work: the translation of era, history, style, fit.
Garments should place a character in time and in the place. They provide landmarks in
history, as well as ease or strain movement and can work beautifully for a character or the
wrong fit or the wrong colors or slightly the wrong part of an era can make the
performance painful for the actor or hard to reconcile or watch. I am aware of my
limitations, but I am prepared to create nearly anything.
