With a performance career spanning Broadway, off-Broadway, and opera and concert stages around the world, James has been involved for two decades in the development of dozens of new musical works on both sides of the table as an actor, writer, director and producer. He has worked with organizations ranging from Riverdance to Sundance, Jesus Christ Superstar to Forbidden Broadway, to TheatreWorks, Ars Nova, Manhattan Theatre Club, New Dramatists, Goodspeed Opera House, The Vineyard Theatre, The O’Neill, Playwrights Horizons, and many more. He has served as the Grants Administrator for The Schnurmacher Foundation, and was the Institutional Gifts Associate for multiple Tony award and Kennedy Center Award winner Bill T. Jones at New York Live Arts. He has also served on the boards of Renegade Performance Group (RPG), and HeArts Without Borders, as well as written for Artists Striving to End Poverty in Bangalore, India. With his writing partner Charles Vincent Burwell, their first musical CUBAMOR had its developmental premiere at the Village Theatre’s Beta Series, and was also an official selection of the 2014 National Alliance for Musical Theatre Festival in NYC, and of TheatreWorks Silicon Valley’s 2013 New Works Festival. Bottle Shock, based on the 2008 movie, has had presentations at The Napa Valley Film Festival, Ars Nova, and Z Space. Their songs have been heard at Lincoln Center, 54 Below at Studio 54, Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater in New York, Ars Nova, A Little New Music in L.A. Feinstein’s at the Nikko in San Francisco, and other venues on both coasts. James is also the writer for the new musical Looking For Christmas, inspired by the best-selling holiday album by country legend Clint Black, which has its world premiere in 2018 at The Old Globe in San Diego.
