Melissa Collins Henderson is a third-career actor in love with storytelling and the creative process. She began theatre work in high school and, after living out a few stranger-than-fiction tales herself, rediscovered her passion for storytelling through acting. Her training (in Austin and Seattle) is diverse and includes Scene Study, Improv, Meisner, Acting for the Camera, Voiceover, and Shakespeare.

Growing up as an "outsider" in Cajun country with parents from Mississippi, and living in different places afterwards--Quebec, mid-Atlantic, Maui, New England, France, Texas, and now the Pacific Northwest--have fostered her curiosity and love for people and diverse cultures. She has an ear for languages and dialects and loves the challenges of character development through both the external work of mimicry and the interior work of the imagination.

In her first career, Melissa had the privilege of being taught by middle school and high school students. From them she learned playfulness, courage, determination, and curiosity, in exchange for teaching them a bit of French, Humanities, and Writing. In her second career, she has been working as a technical writer/editor, where she has learned about understanding audience, clarifying meaning, and getting sh*t done.

After moving from San Antonio to the Pacific Northwest, Melissa has steadily been laying a foundation of training and began her third career with performances at Valley Center Stage: A Christmas Carol and Jake's Women. She is currently in rehearsals for Short Order Theatre Company’s production of Death of a Salesman (February 2019, Slate Theater). She has performed in staged readings (Fantastic.Z's short-play productions, Sometimes and BarBelle) as well as student productions (Freehold’s Motherhood Out Loud and Shakespeare Intensive at Hing Hay Park). She continues to hone her craft through formal training and work (play) with other theatre artists in the Seattle area. Melissa is available for roles in film, stage, and voiceover.
