Spencer Funk is a Seattle based director, actor, and playwright. He grew up in the beautiful Rogue Valley where he was inspired by the work of the local theater giant the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He recieved his BFA in Theater with an emphasis in Original Works from Cornish College of the Arts in 2016. Spencer is interested in bringing the community together by creating new works of live theater as a director, actor, playwright, and divising collaborator. He seeks to enliven shows with body driven spectacle, and to invite new audiences into the theater with quality work, imaginative staging and the pursuit of uniquely theatrical techniques. Physical theater is of particular interest to Spencer, having studied Theatrical Biomechanics, Clown, Mask, Leqoc and more.

As an Actor, Spencer enjoys peforming a variety of styles from realism, to clown, but takes particular delight in absurdism, and the heightened worlds of Shakespeare and other epic playwrights. As a director, he thrives on empty spaces, powerful stories, and dynamic, highly physical staging. As a playwright, Spencer uses a research driven process to create thought provoking works that offer a broad scope on social issues with a particular focus on family relationships, and industry critiques.

Spencer dedicates a great deal of professional energy to The Core Ensemble, where Spencer is a founding member and financial officer. The Core  Ensemble  is a performance ensemble dedicated to empowering the commuity through original performance events. www.thecoreensemble.com

Spencer is an enthusiastic member of the Seattle Theater community, and looks forward to serving the city through his art for many years to come.
