After several years abroad, primarily in London, Lia returned to the Puget Sound in September 2015 after completing her Masters in Film Studies. She decided to move back to the States in order to continue discussions regarding Asian American identity through the arts. Production photos and videos available HERE.

Actor

Lia holds an MA in Film Studies from University College London. Her dissertation, Contemporary Representations of Youth in Asian American Filmdraws on her interests in the performance of ethnicity and the cultural politics of Asian American identity. Born to South Korean immigrants, Lia has lived and performed in the US, UK, and South Korea. She found her love of performance through dance which has led to a variety of roles both on and off the stage and screen.

Born to South Korean immigrants, Lia has lived and performed in the US, UK, and South Korea. She discovered her love of performance through dance which has led to a variety of roles both on and off the stage/screen. The past year is particularly notable including multiple productions on a West End stage, the London amateur premier of Ghost the Musical, and a successful 3-week run of The Jabberwocky at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Dancer/Choreographer

Despite her unconventional start in dance, Lia has gone on to work with professionals, amateur companies, and university groups in a variety of roles to produce high-quality theatre, opera, and dance. Lia was recently awarded "Best Female Dancer" in 2014 by UCLU Dance Society. She has also worked as choreographer of Amadis de Gaule, directed by Artistic Director of Shadwell Opera, Jack Furness.

Lia first began to express herself through movement secretly at home, watching videos online and dance films before venturing into cheerleading. However, she chose to focus on the arts and auditioned for her first musical as a sophomore in high school. At age 15, Lia helped form a hip hop dance group with her friends while expanding her stylistic knowledge in musical theatre, jazz, and ballet.

Lia's experiences in a wide variety of styles have influenced her movement direction and choreography, but she has particular interests in Broadway/Fosse jazz and contemporary styles. She especially enjoys working with actors and non-dancers to utilize their natural movements and intuitions in physical theatre and choreographed movement.
