Steven Sterne is an actor, director, teacher and photographer with an insatiable appetitie to make plays.
Recent directing assignments include The Inappropriate Suitor (Ghost Light Theatricals, November 2017), The (Curious Case of the) Watson Intelligene by Madeleine George, Ghost Light Theatricals January 2017, "Heavenly Spaces" by Emily Conbere, Infinity Box Thought Experiments (October 2016), and the second edition of "Saturday Morning Cartoons," A 14/48 Partner Project. He was a directing mentor for 14:48 High School in 2016.
Steven has appeared with Annex, Ghost Light Theatricals, Seattle Public Theater, Seattle TheatreWorks, Theater Machine, 14/48: The Word's Quickest Theater Festival, and Theater Anonymous.
Steven is a Teaching Artist with Seattle Public Theater's Youth Program at the Bathhouse Theater, working primarily with the 2nd-5th grade and 6th - 8th grade age groups on production oriented classes that present original work, including plays by Jennifer Dice, Maggie Lee and Scot Augustson. He teaches 4-5 classes a year, all of which focus on creating a play with a youth ensemble.
Steven earned an MFA in Directing from the UW School of Drama in 1987. He earned a BA with Honors in Theater from Wesleyan University in 1983. In the late 1980s and early 1990's, Steven worked as MC at the Light Night Club at New City Theater, and appeared in many sketches and short plays.
From 2005-2012, Steven was the Founding Director of the Drama Program at Greenwood Elementary, serving 30-55 students from Kindergarten to 5th grade and producing an original play every academic quarter.
Steven is married to Seattle playwright Jennifer Dice. Their family includes Olivia and Aaron Sterne, accomplished actors in their own rights.
